Many people have decided to convert their attic space into an extra room or even a nice naturally lit living space using sky lights, which makes a nice quiet sanctuary to retreat too.
So what exactly is needed for an attic conversion in Ireland?
Planning permission required for converting your attic Well, when it comes to applying for planning permission for attic conversions, Irish planning laws can be somewhat vague and can vary from community to community. Many of the planning permission guidelines for attic conversions typically require some kind of inspection of the basics, such as upgrading electrical, plumbing, etc. As a well known construction company in Ireland, we will review all the planning permission guidelines for attic conversions before starting construction. As our experience shows, however, if there is some structural changes to the roof when you are doing your attic conversion, such as eye dormers and mansards, you might need to apply for planning permission. In Dublin, however, you might not even need to apply for planning permission when you are planning to do an attic conversion since attics are typically designed to be an uninhabitable storage space. Though this is legal, an attic is still an attic and you cannot add an extra bedroom if you sell your house.
