Traveling With International Shipping Just Got Easier With The Recent Merger Increasing Destinations And Services

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

The economic crisis has been hard for everyone, including International Shipping. It’s a common practice for two companies to join together to become a stronger force. Midwest and Frontier understand this. Early on in 2010 they decided to join forces in a merger that will take eighteen months to complete. The Billy Mitchell Airfield in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been the headquarters for Midwest for lots of years. The company is built to offer service to seventy different destinations including locations in Mexico and Costa Rica. Now that they have teamed up with Frontier, both of those airlines are looking forward to stronger futures in the airline business.

The combined Midwest and Frontier fleet will be nice and impressive as they will have almost one hundred aircraft. Both Airbus and Embraer have made planes for the fleet so that the needs of each route offered by the carrier can be made. Of course each plane meets the regulations and rules set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration. RON service checks are done by the company on every air craft every night. RON stands for Remain Overnight and is a maintenance checklist put together by the FAA. This is just one of the maintenance checks the FAA requires each airline to perform on its fleet.

It’s not uncommon for these smaller carriers not to offer a first class section on their planes. There are of course many reasons for this which has prompted Midwest/Frontier to implement a unique program for those who absolutely must have the extra space. They call the program STRETCH and only apply it to the first four rows of the airplane. This basically means that those who want the feel of a first class flight without all the bells and whistles get an extra 5 inches to total three feet or 36″ of space all their own in the first four rows of the plane.

If you are like most people you are concerned with the weight of your baggage. Midwest has a weight limit of 50 pounds. But, in the event any one of your bags does weigh more than that, you will unfortunately be charged an extra $75. This only applies to overweight bags of course. You’ll want to be sure you read the rules and/or exceptions to this rule for additional details.

This merger will ultimately create a more robust medium sized regional carrier. The company, employees and the general public served by these airlines should be happy to be hearing this.

It isn’t always this easy to complete a merger without a huge burden on other carriers who would have to absorb the increase in travelers if one airline went away. It typically requires a tremendous logistical infrastructure to absorb this increase. This is why healthy merger like this one is most beneficial
